Weaving Horsehair Activity

The ancestral craft of weaving horsehair is one of the rarest and most intricate traditions preserved by indigenous communities in Ecuador. Passed down through generations, it reflects both artistry and resilience, transforming a humble natural material into delicate textiles and ornaments of great cultural value. For these communities, horsehair weaving is more than a technique — it is a way of honoring the bond between humans, animals, and the land. Because so few artisans continue to practice it today, each piece becomes a living testimony of heritage, making the preservation of this tradition essential for sustaining cultural memory and identity.
