A unique piece from Wayúu

More than a backpack, it is a daily Susu. Made of wool, fine cotton and yarn, in different colors with all kinds of geometric designs that represent the Wayuu community and their knowledge of cosmology. The designs are called Kaanas which means the art of weaving patterns. To make these pieces, Wayúu artisans twist and twist threads in an “S” or “Z” shape to finish giving shape to the Susus. The indigenous people of Arawak descent inhabit the Guajira peninsula, part of the Colombian desert. In Wayunaiki, Wayúu means people/person.
