A unique piece from Usiacurí Atlántico

One of the riches of Colombia is the iraca palm weaving. An ancient technique appreciated for its beauty and delicacy made from native plants. The iraca belongs to the palm family that is mostly located in the Nariño region. A palm that requires a prior cultivation process of 3 to 4 years to be harvested. Then the fiber to be used is chosen and cooked for 4 hours to incorporate the colors. One of the crafts of today is the lamp made by the Charala community with openwork fabric, a type of fabric in which iraca threads are used to create unique patterns and designs. The threads intertwine and intertwine in a series of geometric patterns to create an openwork effect.
