The word huipil is derived from the word huipilli, which in Nahuatl means my covered one. In some cases, the huipil has deeper meanings related to the way we see the world. Stories, myths, legends, rites and ancient customs converge. The decorative techniques of the huipils vary between supplementary weft brocade, hand embroidery, machine embroidery and appliqués.
