Guatemala

A unique piece from Chimaltenango

The wool used in the pieces comes from the abundant fields of the Guatemalan highlands, where the altitude and cold weather help the resistance and condition of the wool. Also, Agave fiber is collected directly from the plant, a task that requires skill and patience. The maguey or Agave leaves are carefully extracted to obtain textile fibers, which are then meticulously prepared by hand to obtain a flat and clean fiber. Subsequently, they are sorted, washed and left to dry in the sun, carrying out a procedure that respects both nature and craftsmanship. To weave the wool and maguey canvases, backstrap looms are used. And for cotton and cotton cushions with wool, foot looms by different artisans. Then, each work is carefully taken to the capital of Guatemala, to join each part and create the final cushions, linking tradition with innovation in every detail.
